虫垂炎に対して、抗菌薬治療が手術に対して、非劣勢であるかのRCT。虫垂結石のある場合も含まれた。
敗血症性ショック、汎発性腹膜炎、再発、画像上での強い炎症の所見、被包化膿瘍、free air、悪性腫瘍の初見は除外された。
結果は、抗菌薬群の非劣勢が認められた。
また、抗菌薬群で90日以内に29%が手術を受け、虫垂結石のある群で41%、ない群で25%であった。
合併症は抗菌薬群が多かった。虫垂結石のある群では抗菌薬群が多く、ない群では差を認めなかった。
